Meet Grace, our new Co-op student

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your educational background?

I am currently in the final semester of my Bachelor of Education (Bed) program through Nipissing University Schulich School of Education. I’ll be qualified in the Junior/intermediate division (Grade 4-10), and I plan on getting my senior qualification too. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa where I majored in English and minored in Communications. I’m super excited to begin my teaching career with RCDSB and to share my love of reading and literacy with my future students!

Introducing our Early Literacy Station

Our newest computer is just for the little ones!

If you’re looking for an engaging, educational, and safe computer experience for your young children, look no further than the Children’s Department at the Petawawa Public Library.

How is it different from our other public computers?

Our Early Literacy Station is loaded with fun programs designed to promote skills in Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Music. (STREAM). Geared to children as young as 2 years of age, it features a colourful child-friendly keyboard and mouse, as well as touch screen capabilities. It is also completely off-line so only age-appropriate, pre-approved, pre-loaded content is available.

Online Library resources

Your library card can open up a world of experiences for your young children. Our Digital Kids page includes in-library and at-home access to TumbleBooks (includes read-alongs, videos, and puzzles & games) and Kanopy Kids (includes videos based on storybooks). To use from home you’ll need to have your library card number handy. (You’ll also be asked to create an account using your email for Kanopy)

Here’s a selection of fiction nominees and winners from major literary awards this year, such as the Scotiabank Giller Prize, the Governor General’s Literary Awards, the Booker Prize, the Writer’s Trust of Canada, the National Book Awards, the Amazon Canada First Novel Award, and the Women’s Prize for Fiction.

Maybe you’ll find a new favourite author or genre! Open the full list to see if the title is available or not. You can then log in to your online library account and place a hold.

If you haven’t done so already, you’ll need to set up an online account to place holds and view your checkouts. It’s pretty easy and you’ll find everything you need to know in our post, I’d like to access my account online.

I’d like to access my account online

Visit the Library first

Set up your Membership in person, and you’ll receive the following:

  • Your Library Card with a 14 digit number
  • Your temporary PIN

Set up your online account

  • Go to the Library’s website
  • Click “Login to My Account” (top of the  homepage).
  • Enter your Library Card Number (no spaces) and PIN.
  • You’ll be taken to the registration page.
  • Give yourself a unique username.
    • In the future, you can login without your card number.
  • You’ll be asked to provide your birthdate.
    • This verifies you are not a minor.
    • It is not required, but you may not be able to use all the catalogue features.
  • You’ll be asked to provide your email address, if you did not provide it when you obtained your library card.
    • It is not required.
