How Do I Join the Library?

Membership at the Petawawa Public Library is free to Petawawa Residents, and renewed every two years. To register, visit the library in person with Photo ID and documentation of your current address.

Lost cards can be replaced for a fee of $5.00.

Non-Residents are welcome to use the library and may obtain a card for an annual fee of $30.00. Photo ID and proof of address is also required.

Teachers may take out a membership with special privileges to support their classroom activities. For more information, please contactl the Children's Librarian or call 613-687-2227 ext. 2204. Teacher memberships are renewable every school year.

If you fall into a different category, please email the library or call 613-687-2227 ext. 0 to discuss your membership options.

 
How Do I Get a PIN to View My Account?

Ask for your PIN when you present your card on your next visit to the library.  You need to enter your PIN with your Library card number in order to access you account information online.

 
How Do I Renew My Books?

Click on the CATALOGUE tab on the library’s home page.
The Petawawa Public Library Catalogue will open up.
Click on “My Account
Select   “Renew My Materials”.
Enter your User ID (which is your 14-digit library card number)
Enter your PIN (which you can obtain by showing your card on your next visit to the library).  
You now have access to your library account.

Review the list of  items eligible for renewal.
Click the box next to the items you wish to renew.
Click the “Renew Selected Items” button.
A box will pop up confirming your renewals.
Click OK.
Continue exploring your account if you wish.

 
How Do I Place a Hold?

Click on the CATALOGUE link on the library’s home page.
The Petawawa Public Library Catalogue will open up.
Use the “Search” box to find the item you want.
Click anywhere it says “Place Hold”.
If you are not already logged in, you will be prompted to enter your User ID and PIN.
Click on the calendar next to the “Expiration Date” box. 
Select  “No Date” unless there is a date after which you will no longer need the item.  In that case select a date on the calendar and your hold will expire at that time.
Click “Place Hold”.
A box will pop up confirming your hold.
Click OK.
Continue exploring your account if you wish.

 
How Do I Access the Internet at the Library?

We have six Public Internet Stations for Adults (16 years old and up), two Stations for Teens (13-15 years old) and two filtered Stations for Children (12 and under).

You are welcome use your personal laptop/notebook computer. Wireless access to the Internet is available within the library. You may also connect to one of the Internet cable outlets located in the floor.

Members of the library may use their library card to sign out a library-owned laptop or notebook computer for In-Library use only. These items are not permitted to leave the library.

How Do I Find Out What’s Going On at the Library?

The Petawawa Public Library is pleased to present a variety of programs and events for all ages.

How Do I Get a Museum Pass? 

The Petawawa Public Library has partnered with local and national museums to provide free family admission. Present your library card at the Circulation Desk to borrow the museum pass of your choice.

Please note: Passes have a one week borrowing period and cannot be reserved for a specifc date. Find more information under Collections>Special Collections>Museums Passes.

 
How Do I Access Books From Other Libraries

If we do not own the item you need, you may request if from another library through our Interlibrary Loan Service. You may fill out an Interlibrary Loan form at the library or online.

You may also register to use the Self-Service option. Complete instructions for ordering Interlibrary Loans are available under Services>Interlibrary Loans.

Please note: Plan accordingly, as some items may take in excess of 4 weeks to arrive once the request has been entered.

 
How Do I Research Online?

There are many online options to help with your research. Look under Collections>Online Databases to find articles, books and other resources in electronic formats. The following information is covered by our databases: -- Audiobooks & eBooks -- Careers -- Fiction -- Health -- Hobbies & DIY -- Kids -- Local History & Genealogy -- Newspapers & Magazines--.

All are freely available within the library. Most may be accessed from home using your library card number. Some require log in information obtained by registering at the library first.

How Do I Become a Volunteer?

The library is fortunate to have many volunteers, students as well as adults, who assist in the daily workings of the library. Our volunteers shelve books, shelf-read and assist with special programming. If you would like to inquire about volunteering, please call Erika at 613-687-2227 ext 2207. How Do I Earn High School Community Service Credit?

Students working on completing their Community Service Hours for High School Graduation are welcome to volunteer at the library. Please select one of the following options:

To help in the Children's Department, visit the library to fill out an application form. Contact the Children's Librarian at 613-687-2227 ext. 2204, for more information. Teen volunteers in the Children's Department may concentrate on keeping the Children's area organinzed, assisting with special children's programming or becoming a Reading Buddy.

 
How Do I Write an Exam at the Library?

The library offers exam proctoring for a fee.

Our Exam schedule is 10:30a.m. to 2:00p.m. Monday to Friday only. Please contact your university or college first, and then email sdurand@bellnet.ca to finalize the details.

The cost for Invigilating is $30 cash, payable at time of  the exam. Any copying, faxing, printing or mailing fee is extra.
