Playaway: Pre-loaded audiobooks

A new audiobook format

Now you can borrow Playaways at the Petawawa Public Library. Each Playaway device is loaded with one of the many new titles we’ve chosen for the launch of this user-friendly way of listening to your favourite authors.

No internet? No CD player? No problem!

All you need is your library card, your own headphones or ear buds and you’re good to go. And we mean go! Go for a walk, go for a run, or go wherever you go to get away from it all. You can even listen to your Playaway audiobook while driving, using the adapter cable we can supply on request.

Available titles

To see what’s available in this first round, view the complete list of Playaway titles. From there, place a hold, or visit us to see what’s on the shelf.

9 of our new Playaway devices on display.

What you’ll get

Each Playaway comes in a bright orange case identifying the book. The device itself is only about 2 by 3.5 inches and snaps into a special recess in the case. If you would like to listen in your car, request the adapter cable and we’ll check it out to you too. The cable can be stored in the case, in its own bag, and must be returned with the unit.

What you’ll need

For your own protection, you’ll need to supply your own headphones or ear buds. For $2.00, you can purchase a set from the library. You’ll also need to supply a battery. And don’t forget your library card, of course.

Other ways to listen to Library books

Remember, we still have talking books on CD to borrow. You can also download Libby for access to eAudiobooks. Happy listening!

The history of the Petawawa Public Library can be traced back to 1973 when what is now known as the Town of Petawawa consisted of two separate municipalities: the Village of Petawawa and the Township of Petawawa. In 1997, with the amalgamation of the Township and Village, the new Town of Petawawa became home to the “Petawawa Public Library”. Today, the Petawawa Public Library continues to grow. It employs full-time and part-time staff and continues to rely on the help of loyal volunteers to serve over 7000 active members.
